HENRY O WATSON - THE POSTCARD COMEDIAN
If you are a fan of Bill Cosby's story-telling ability, George Wallace's emphasizing ability or Richard Prior's animation, you'll love Henry O. Watson.
Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, offstage this actor/comedian is a real southern gentleman, complete with charm and southern drawl. The moment he hits the stage, his energy and enthusiasm tells you you're in for a performance you won't forget.
But you'd better bring your brains to catch the humour he'll throw at you, or some of it'll go right over your head.
Watson's philosophy on performing is that when you walk out on stage, you've got to grab the audience's attention, and then hold it until you're ready to leave. He says, "Think back to the comedians you saw last week... if you don't remember anything about them, they didn't really get your attention."
About his own comedy, he says, "The ingredients for being a successful stand-up comedian are likeability, individuality and stylized delivery. The style I'm working with is 'tricky wit'. You usually can't guess what I'm going to say . . . you've got to listen because it appeals to your intelligence. I'm funny to those who listen."
Watson has always been proud of his roots, however, he admits, "I left Memphis many years ago, because I was ambitious. I wanted to WEAR cotton!"
This unique brand of 'cerebral' comedy stems from a varied background in psychology, accounting and serving in Vietnam. Owning a limo service in Los Angeles actually launched his career as a stand-up comic. Driving the "stars" presented him with so much comedic material, that he needed an outlet for his wit. Soon he was performing across Canada and the United States provoking genuine thought and invoking laughter at the serious side of life. Born from his love of travel, Henry writes postcards to famous people saying what he thinks of them. They just have to figure out who the hell it came from!
